How govt plans to make Northeast 'Ashtalakshmi' of world

Mizoram

The Centre has launched the Mizoram Ginger Mission, a ₹189.79 crore convergence-led initiative focused on ginger cultivation and value chain development in the state, officials said. The project was jointly unveiled virtually by Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma. It will be implemented under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). Scindia highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on ensuring farmers become key stakeholders across the agricultural value chain, “from farm to fork.”

Assam

Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia virtually launched Mission Muga Silk ‘Senehjori’, a ₹411 crore project aimed at transforming Assam’s iconic Muga silk industry. The initiative is expected to empower over 2.5 lakh weavers and entrepreneurs associated with Muga silk production. Scindia described it as a step to strengthen Assam’s “golden thread,” improving value addition, quality, and global competitiveness. He said the mission aims to take Muga silk “from farm gate to foreign shore.”

Arunachal Pradesh

Live Events

Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the Arunachal Kiwi Mission, a cluster-based initiative aimed at boosting kiwi cultivation, production, marketing, and value chain development in the state. The mission, with an outlay of around ₹167 crore, is a convergence-led programme under the DoNER Ministry, integrating support from multiple ministries and institutions including NABARD, ICAR-CITH, APEDA, NERAMAC, and private investors.

Nagaland

Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched a kiwi cultivation-focused mission aimed at strengthening production and value chain development in Nagaland as part of broader Northeast agricultural initiatives. The programme follows a convergence-led model, bringing together central ministries, agricultural institutions, and private stakeholders to improve output, marketing, and farmer incomes.

Sikkim

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) announced financial support for Sikkim, highlighting the state as a model for sustainable development, organic farming, and eco-friendly growth. In his message, Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said Sikkim has emerged as a leading example of ecological stewardship, responsible tourism, and organic agriculture under the Centre’s Act East vision.

Tripura

The Mission Queen Pineapple, Tripura, a three-year transformative initiative with an outlay of ₹236 crore, was launched in New Delhi. The project was jointly inaugurated by Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, and state Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Nath said Tripura is a land of hills and valleys, with around 70% of its geographical area covered by hills and hillocks locally known as ‘Tilla’, while the remaining 30% comprises plain land.

MeghalayaThe Meghalaya Lakadong Turmeric initiative highlights the promotion and value chain development of the state’s high-curcumin turmeric variety as part of broader efforts to boost indigenous agricultural products from the Northeast.

The mission aims to strengthen cultivation, processing, branding, and market access for Lakadong turmeric, known for its high quality and medicinal value, enabling better income opportunities for farmers and expanding its reach in national and global markets.
