面對超高齡社會來臨，高齡聽覺機能障礙者逐年攀升，聽力師團體呼籲成人健檢納入專業聽力篩檢，對此，國民健康署表示，若要將「純音聽力檢查」全面納入常規篩檢，須審慎衡酌實證效益、成本效益及服務量能，且就「無症狀成人之全面性聽力篩檢」而言，國際間尚未形成一致共識。
美國預防醫學專家小組（U.S. Preventive Services Task Force）將50歲以上無症狀成人之聽力篩檢評定為實證不足（I statement），英國國家篩檢委員會（UK National Screening Committee）也未建議推動成人族群之常規篩檢，主因在於篩檢準確性、後續介入成效及健康結果改善等相關證據仍有限，顯示普篩項目仍須依實證基礎並參酌國際作法審慎評估。
國健署表示，現行策略方面，除了成人預防保健服務已納入耳鼻喉相關檢查，進行健康評估與初步異常辨識外，同時也參考世界衛生組織推動的「長者整合照護（ICOPE）」架構，將聽力納入長者內在能力評估項目之一，由基層醫療機構、衛生所及社區據點執行初步評估。
目前每年服務約30萬名65歲以上長者，透過氣音測試初步辨識疑似異常個案，約占8%，並協助轉介至耳鼻喉科或聽力相關專業單位做進一步評估與介入，已建立基本的照護銜接機制。
