Big injury news for both sides
A
By Andrew McGarry
Well if this was a chess game, you'd say that the Suns and Hawks have both lost a major piece.
Key rebound defender Jarman Impey is out for the Hawks with a hamstring problem.
And we've just got word that Daniel Rioli is out of the game for Gold Coast with a jaw injury. That's big for both teams, but particularly for the Suns - Rioli has been such a key player for them this season.
HT: Hawthorn 8.7 (55) leads Gold Coast 7.5 (47)

The Suns are still charging in the final seconds of the half, and Christian Petracca marks about 55 out.
He goes back and then starts moving forward just as the siren sounds! If there was a couple more seconds he might have been able to unload for another major.
But time runs out, and we have a game on the Gold Coast.
The lead is back to eight points, and the Suns are right in this.
Who will have the next surge of momentum? Can the Suns keep it going after the break, or will Sam Mitchell's men shut it down.
Whatever happens, it should be very entertaining.
Suns get 50 - but Rowell hits the post
A
By Andrew McGarry
This game is on the edge.
The Suns get it on the wing, Jed Walter kicks inboard to Matt Rowell, who gets shouldered to the ground by Jai Newcombe.
The crowd roars! Newcombe gives away 50!
Matt Rowell kicks from 35 - but he hits the post!
The lead is back to eight.
Jed Walter kicks another as the Suns close in

This game has seen some wicked shifts in momentum, and we're in another one of those now.
The Suns are getting the handball game going, and John Noble just surgically found the gap between two Hawks on the wing to set Sam Clohesy free. He ran to 60 and kicked long to the pocket, where Jed Walter marked.
He runs around and the snap goes through!
The lead is under 10 points!
This game is getting very interesting!
Leo Lombard kicks a brilliant goal from the pocket for Gold Coast
A
By Andrew McGarry
Oh my word! What is this?
The Suns are surging the ball forward at ground level. It's not set shots, but they went down the right to 50, and Jed Walter grabs it and flicks a handball clear to Leo Lombard. And Lombard snaps a worldie from the pocket!
That was reminiscent of the old days when Gary Ablett Jr would kick them from ridiculous angles in the pocket at Carrara.
It's been a while.
Great goal! The Suns are back within 16 points.
Suns go back-to-back!

It's not pretty, but the Suns are getting some forward aggression here right now.
A forward 50 stoppage has Matt Rowell doing a Matt Rowell-type bull impersonation, and he got the ball to Touk Miller, who found Jarrod Witts and Witts snapped the ball through.
That's two in a row! The Suns are under four goals down in time on.
Touk Miller kicks a vital goal for the Suns
A
By Andrew McGarry
To say that was needed is a vast understatement!
The Suns went long to a contest deep inside 50. It came off hands, went out to Touk Miller, and he almost swivel-kicked around his body to get a goal for the home side!
Newcombe kicks the Hawks well clear
A
By Andrew McGarry
Danger danger for the Suns.
The Hawks are looking imperious right now.
A mark to Jai Newcombe just on 50 - he booms the kick, it's a goal!
And Newcombe is giving it to the Suns.
He gets in Leo Lombard's face, the pair face off, and then skipper Noah Anderson shoulders Newcombe away.
There is no love lost out there!
Injury concerns for both teams
A
By Andrew McGarry
Ok, so we have injury concerns for both teams.
Jarman Impey went off, came back out and has now gone down the rooms again. Apparently it's a hamstring issue.
For the Suns, Joel Jeffrey has some sort of leg concern, and he is off the ground right now.
Nick Watson kicks his second
A
By Andrew McGarry
There are some big warning signs for the Suns right now.
The Hawks have weathered the Suns energy, and now they are just putting the foot down.
Nick Watson was left in way too much space to take an easy mark inside 50. and he kicks his second, the Hawks lead by 26 points!
Miss from Hardwick
A
By Andrew McGarry
The Suns have been pressuring at one end, with no result.
Now the Hawks have gone down the other end, and a long kick found Blake Hardwick, who outbodied and out-timed Oscar Adams.
But his kick missed.
There's a bit of fire in tonight's game
A
By Andrew McGarry
There are a few spicy matchups around the ground, and the energy is fairly elevated.
Touk Miller and Jai Newcombe in particular are getting up close and personal with wrestling and a few comments.
This is not going to be a quiet game.
Debutant Addinsall comes up short with set shot
A
By Andrew McGarry
The Suns are battling to set up chances here, and debutant Beau Addinsall managed a set shot from 50.
His kick didn't have enough oomph on it, and it was rushed through.
Suns need to cut down on turnovers
A
By Andrew McGarry
That surge from the Hawks was largely pressure-led, a combination of clearances and turnover.
Right now the Suns have made 25 turnovers, the Hawks 18.
QT: Hawthorn 6.5 (41) leads Gold Coast 3.1 (19)
A
By Andrew McGarry
The quarter ends with the Hawks surge continuing.
A late attack sees Jack Ginnivan get it wide to Jai Newcombe on 50 in the right forward pocket.
He kicks it on the siren, and it goes through! And the Hawks go from two goals down to nearly four goals up.
That was a brutal period of play from the visitors, who just started dominating centre clearance and scoring at will.
The Suns will want to get back to where they started, but I don't think the Hawks are going to go low-energy now they have this lead.
Nick Watson produces some wizardry for Hawthorn
A
By Andrew McGarry
What is going on here!
The Hawks have gone up two gears and the Suns don't have an answer right now.
They surge forward again on the right, the ball bounces inside 50 and Nick Watson claps on the pace gets to the ball and slides it home from 25m out on an angle.
This is incredible stuff from the Hawks. They lead by two goals deep in time on.
Hardwick puts Hawthorn ahead
A
By Andrew McGarry
The Hawks are turning it around starting with the centre clearances and the Suns are on the back foot.
The ball comes to Blake Hardwick deep in the pocket - and he kicks a belter of a goal!
The surge continues, and the Hawks are suddenly ahead!
Dylan Moore kicks another and the Hawks are level
A
By Andrew McGarry
The Hawks are hitting back here.
A surge forward on the back of a centre clearances, Dylan Moore grabs the ball inside 50 and he kicks as he is crunched.
The ball goes through! The Hawks are level.
