Jobe Shanahan goes back and converts for the Eagles
D
By Dean Bilton
Ten points, three minutes. A chance?
Great tackle from Waterman on Maynard to force the turnover, and then Duursma's kick to Shanahan was a beauty. Do they stil believe?
Jamie Elliott is being stretchered off
D
By Dean Bilton
Scott Pendlebury, in his milestone game, has not carried himself particularly well here. No doubt he is feeling for his great mate Elliott and emotions are running high, but to blame the opponent for that injury as he did is not fair.
It's a horrible shame for Elliott though, and for Collingwood. He looks crestfallen as he is driven from the field. Not the ending anyone had hoped for here.
Jamie Elliott has done his knee... and there is a melee!
D
By Dean Bilton
The MCG was absolute erupting, because Pendlebury won the centre clearance and Elliott had taken a fine mark out on the lead, but as soon as he hit the deck it was clear his knee had gone.
The Collingwood players, led by Scott Pendlebury, have come in blaming Tylar Young for the injury, which is completely ridiculous and now tempers have boiled over.
It's a really horrible ending to what looked like being a night of celebration.
Nick Daicos seals the deal!
D
By Dean Bilton
Of course it's Nick Daicos! The ball was locked inside Collingwood's forward 50, and you could just see Daicos lurking around waiting to be the difference.
Schultz had been awarded the free kick but Daicos wasn't waiting for that. He burned around the corner and snapped the goal that will finally settle the Collingwood nerves.
Dan McStay straight out of the ruck! Pies settle!
D
By Dean Bilton
McStay outmuscled Williams in the forward 50 ruck contested, threw it on the boot and let the crowd will it home. Huge Collingwood goal!
Back to nine points. Is that enough for Collingwood? Seven minutes to play.
'Just a game': Perspective key to Bailey Smith's starring role
J
By Jon Healy
Bailey Smith had another night out, with seven clearances, a goal and 32 disposals (18 of which came as the Swans surged in the third quarter).
Smith tells Fox a bit of perspective and even some time off is helping him thrive.
"I'm separating my identity from who I am and what I do; distinguishing Bailey the footballer and Bailey the person. I'm not putting too much weight into my performance," he says.
"There's so much more to life than this game. So when you put it into perspective there's no pressure to play well. You just go out there and let it all out.
"It's just a game at the end of the day — if I play well or if I don't, who cares? Bailey the person's different to the player, so distinguishing that and doing our thing.
"The club's so good at giving us time off and separating the personal life from the club so it doesn't get monotonous."
Jobe Shanahan! The Eagles are back within three!
D
By Dean Bilton
This guy is going to be a problem for a decade or more. Shanahan with an incredible contested mark, the sort which has already become his trademark.
He nails the shot and there are three points in it! The Eagles are right there!
Elliot Yeo finally! The Eagles take the long road home!
D
By Dean Bilton
My goodness they made hard work of that! A series of scrapped handballs and shanked kicks, bad decisions and all the rest, but somehow it ends up with Yeo alone on the goal line.
They're still coming, West Coast! It's a nine-point game!
The Eagles are blowing their chances
D
By Dean Bilton
Been the story of the day for the Eagles, poor entries inside 50 and then some bad misses at bad times.
Johnston just hit the post from 15 metres out, directly in front. They're on top right now, but they might have missed their moment.
The Cats reign supreme over the Swans!
J
By Jon Healy
It's one hell of a statement from Geelong as this top-of-the-table clash ends in a 15.17 (107) to 12.8 (80) victory.
The Cats have now beaten in successive weeks reigning premiers Brisbane and the formerly ladder-leading Swans.
Are they the premiership favourites now?
"It feels really good, but you don't want to peak too early," Bailey Smith tells Fox Footy.
Even Jeremy Cameron scuffs 'em
J
By Jon Healy
Jeremy Cameron takes a mark about 55 metres out and Brodie Grundy assumes the position on the mark.
It's a mammoth distance to goal and Cameron is looking all around for options as he trots in.
Eventually he decides to barrel it, but the ball slides off the outside of his boot and straight into the hands of the red and white.
Roan Steele snaps a settler for the Pies!
D
By Dean Bilton
Perhaps the celebration might be queued up after all!
Looked like a throw from Josh Daicos to Steele, certainly not a legal handball and an obvious free kick not called, but it's a Collingwood day! It finds Steele who kicks a ripping goal.
Score review stops a Max Holmes boomer
J
By Jon Healy
Max Holmes launches it into a contest and somehow everyone misses it. The ball takes a friendly bounce goalward and there's a scramble, but it's just clipped a Swan's knee in the last of about a 70-metre journey.
Charlie chimes in
J
By Jon Healy
Local boy Charlie Curnow keeps the Swans within reach.
Joel Amartey went back into the ruck and took the ball cleanly, hooking a leftie over his shoulder that Curnow takes and strikes true.
The big right-arm flex after the fact tells you the Swans aren't done yet.
3QT: Collingwood 10.12 (72) lead West Coast 9.7 (61)
D
By Dean Bilton
When that margin got out to 29 points it looked like game over, with the Pies fans ready to launch into full Pendles celebration mode. But the young Eagles, to their credit, stood up in the face of that and wrestled their way back into the game.
The Eagles will be kicking themselves for the silly goals they gave up in that term, because when the game evened out again they proved they are good enough. But with a crowd of 90k against them, and all the emotion of the day willing Collingwood over the line, can they stand up one more time?
And just one more note... expect a Scott Pendlebury moment in this last quarter. It's written in the stars.
Brad Close gets another
J
By Jon Healy
The Cats make it look easy as they find Brad Close right in the prime position to nail one from right in front.
So much calm and composure in this quarter from the Cats to end a really fraught match.
The only panicky moment there came from a little fumble from Close, but he managed to regather.
Bad missed target by Sydney
J
By Jon Healy
A great tackle by James Rowbottom forces the turnover, but it's wasted by Riley Bice as he misses a wide open Joel Amartey about 4 metres too high in the forward pocket.
Amartey regathers off the throw-in, but can't snap home. Maybe a little rushed there.
Malakai Champion has two and the Eagles aren't done!
D
By Dean Bilton
That's three in a row for West Coast, and it's back to an 11-point game.
Harley Reid picked off a low ball inside 50 and Jack Williams did really well to work a shot. It was a shocker, but it fell to Champion deep in the pocket. His set shot snap was a ripper.
