Amy Winehouse's Father Ordered to Pay Nearly £1M to Daughter's Friends After Failed High Court Claim

Amy Winehouse's father, Mitch Winehouse, has been ordered to pay nearly £1 million to two of his late daughter's friends, Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay, after losing a High Court claim. The claim, which accused the women of profiting from the sale of Amy's items at US auctions in 2021 and 2023, was deemed "inherently weak" by Ms Justice Clarke. The judge found Mitch Winehouse had knowledge of the sales beforehand and pursued the claim in an "aggressive and unpleasant" manner, causing significant harm to the defendants' reputations and well-being. Mitch Winehouse also incurred at least £950,000 in legal costs.

The ruling stated: "The claimant chose to bring an inherently weak claim, pursue it aggressively and relentlessly to the end, and make serious and unfounded allegations against the defendants which significantly damaged their reputations, career prospects, financial security and health."

The case highlights the challenges in managing the estate and legacy of deceased celebrities, particularly when family members and friends have differing interests.
