Azerbaijani President Aliyev Accuses European Parliament of Sabotaging Peace Process

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has accused the European Parliament of derailing the peace process between his country and Armenia.

"Instead of supporting the peace process, this structure is actually sabotaging it. From May 2021 to April 30, 2026, the European Parliament passed 14 resolutions filled with offensive language against Azerbaijan. Just imagine: 14 resolutions in five years – a sort of obsession. And the latest one was passed four days ago," he said in a video address to the European Political Community summit in Yerevan.

In response, Azerbaijan’s parliament on May 1 adopted a resolution on suspending the country’s cooperation with the European Parliament and initiating the procedure to terminate Baku’s membership in the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly, Aliyev recalled.

On May 1, the Azerbaijani foreign minister summoned EU Ambassador to Baku Marijana Kujundzic to present a note of protest following the European Parliament’s resolution in support of Armenia’s democratic sustainability. The ministry stressed that the resolution "distorts the reality, violates the principles of objectivity and commitments to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states."
