CBI to probe 'trigger point' in Twisha Sharma's death probe

The CBI's investigation into Twisha Sharma's death will focus on a "trigger point" preceding her distress messages.

BHOPAL: A possible "trigger point" preceding the moment newlywed Twisha Sharma allegedly began expressing distress to her family is expected to become a central focus of the investigation once the CBI formally takes over the probe into her death, sources said.

According to sources, investigators are likely to reconstruct the final days leading up to Twisha's death to determine whether a specific development coincided with the alleged messages she sent to her mother describing suffocation, emotional trauma and distress.

The focus of the inquiry is expected to shift toward chronology - examining whether Twisha's condition changed gradually or whether there was a noticeable turn in circumstances shortly before she allegedly began communicating distress to her family.

Investigators are expected to place particular emphasis on the timing of those messages and examine them alongside key forensic findings that have emerged from the autopsy.

Among the aspects likely to come under scrutiny, apart from multiple external injuries, is a reference in the postmortem report to an "alleged history of undergoing MTP one week back".

CBI Investigators are expected to independently examine both versions through hospital records, counselling documents, WhatsApp conversations and witness statements to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) and whether it coincided with any shift in Twisha's emotional condition.

The last WhatsApp chats and phone calls are also expected to form a crucial part of the inquiry.

For investigators, the significance of these chats and calls may lie in chronology - whether they mark a clear change in Twisha's emotional state and whether any specific event preceded them.

The multiple injuries recorded on Twisha's body are expected to remain another key focus.

The postmortem reportedly notes several antemortem blunt-force injuries, described as simple in nature.

However, investigators are expected to seek clarity on the approximate age of those injuries: whether they were sustained close to the time of death or were older.

"For the CBI, once it formally assumes charge, the investigation is expected to move beyond isolated allegations and focus instead on reconstructing a timeline: when Twisha's distress began, what preceded it, whether the alleged MTP altered circumstances, how the injuries fit into the chronology, and what her final messages reveal about the hours before her death" said a senior police officer wishing not to be quoted.
