Warum es wichtig ist
Chinese AI companies are increasingly seeking to capture users looking for alternatives to Western AI models due to high prices and geopolitical tensions. Zhipu AI launched its GLM-5.2 model, making it available under a subscription plan.
The Hong Kong-listed stock surged as much as 48 per cent to HK$1,620 in morning trading and ended the day up 32.8 per cent at HK$1,457, as the firm’s open-source roll-out coincided with Washington’s abrupt order to suspend top US models overseas.
The launch underscores a trend of Chinese players seeking to capture users who are seeking alternatives to top models from Western leaders amid high prices and geopolitical manoeuvring.
Zhipu’s announcement came shortly after US AI giant Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its flagship models, Fable-5 and Mythos-5. The San Francisco-based firm cited an export control directive from the US government based on national security concerns.
GLM-5.2 will be available to all users of Zhipu’s new GLM Coding Plan subscription, which is priced at just a tenth of Anthropic’s premium Claude Code and Claude Max tiers. The GLM-5.2 application programming interface (API) was scheduled to go live this week, while the model itself would be formally open-sourced under the permissive MIT licence, according to an announcement by the company on Saturday.
