내달부터는 자체 재원 8천790만원을 투입해 공공청사 등 68곳에 16만3천여개의 생리대를 비치할 계획이다.
시는 예산 소진 시까지 공공생리대를 지원한 후 이용자 의견을 수렴해 향후 사업 확대 여부를 검토할 방침이다.
정명근 화성특례시장은 "이재명 대통령이 작년 12월 생리대 가격 문제를 지적한 후 지방 정부 차원에서 할 수 있는 일을 빠르게 고민해 공공생리대 사업을 마련했다"며 "앞으로도 시민의 건강권을 더 두텁게 보장해 기본사회와 보편 복지의 가치를 실현해 나가겠다"고 말했다.
