SEOUL, June 23 (Yonhap) -- European sales of Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's leading automaker, and its affiliate Kia Corp. decreased 2.4 percent in May from a year earlier, weighed down by weaker demand for vehicles, industry data showed Tuesday.

The two automakers sold a combined 86,444 units in Europe last month, accounting for an 8.6 percent market share, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association.

Hyundai Motor's sales dropped 18.8 percent on-year to 37,062 units, while Kia's sales rose 14.9 percent to 49,382 units.

For the January-May period, Hyundai Motor and Kia sold a combined 434,964 vehicles in Europe, down 2.4 percent from the same period in 2025.

Hyundai Motor's sales fell 10.1 percent to 197,308 units, while Kia's sales increased 5.1 percent to 237,656 units.
