Iran-US war latest: Tehran hits Kuwait airport and targets Bahrain after accusing US of ceasefire violation

One person has been killed in the attack

One person has been killed and multiple people have been injured after an Iranian drone attack on Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday.

The attack hit the T1 building at the international airport and flights were suspended or diverted to alternative airports, the report citing the General Civil Aviation Authority said.

Bahrain’s army also reported intercepting Iranian drones and missiles this morning.

Kuwait had previously reported intercepting Iranian aircraft earlier this week.

Iran’s foreign ministry condemned US attacks on an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island, saying they violated a ceasefire understanding as well as breaking international law.

It said Kuwait and Bahrain bore “direct and clear responsibility” for the attacks and accused the countries of allowing the US to use their territory and facilities to launch attacks against Iran.

The escalation comes as president Donald Trump called suggestions that the US and Iran are no longer holding peace talks “false and erroneous” and insisted the two countries have been speaking "continuously".

Meanwhile, Tehran has said that the exchange of messages between Iranian and US negotiators ended days ago, according to state media.

Following an Iranian drone attack on Kuwait International airport on Wednesday as part of ongoing conflict in the Middle East, many holidaymakers will have concerns over travel to the region.

Multiple people were injured in the attack on the airport’s T1 building, with flights suspended or diverted to alternative airports, a report citing the General Civil Aviation Authority said.

The temporary closure of Middle Eastern airspace in March grounded flights and severely disrupted travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after a series of strikes across the country.

Kuwait International Airport had reopened only recently

After Iranian drone attacks, Kuwait International Airport has suspended all flights until further notice.

It had only re-opened recently, on Monday 1 June after Iranian retaliatory strikes hit the region for weeks in the fallout of the war with the US and Israel.

The conflict caused flight disruptions for months. The Airport was hit by drone attacks in March and April further delaying its re-opening.

Iran’s foreign ministry has released a statement targeted at Kuwait, following drone attacks on the country’s main airport on Wednesday.

It condemned US attacks on an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island, saying they violated a ceasefire understanding as well as breaking international law.

The ministry said Kuwait and Bahrain bore “direct and clear responsibility” for the attacks and accused the countries of allowing the US to use their territory and facilities to launch attacks against Iran.

Tehran said it reserved the right to self-defence and would use all available means to respond including targeting the source of any future attacks.
