Israel Expands Control in Gaza Strip, Contrary to Ceasefire Terms
Netanyahu Announces 60% Control, Aiming for 70%, Amid Stalled Peace Talks and Rising Casualties
Speaking at a conference on Thursday, Israeli Leader Netanyahu said: "We are currently squeezing Hamas; we now control 60% of the territory of the Strip... My directive is to move to... 70." This expansion contradicts the October 2025 ceasefire terms. At least 738 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire. Recent strikes include the killing of Mohammed Odeh, head of Hamas' military wing, his family, and other key figures. Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz vowed to eliminate those behind the October 7, 2023, massacre. The situation has drawn international concern, with the UN considering the Hamas-run health ministry's figures reliable. Netanyahu's announcement and the stalled indirect talks between Israel and Hamas signal a high risk of further escalation.
