Jewar Airport Connectivity Corridor Underway

As the Jewar international airport is set to host commercial flights by June 15, the Yamuna Industrial Development Authority is building a 15.1 kilometer long and 120 meter wide corridor that will improve connectivity of the upcoming airport with the Yamuna expressway. The project is a part of the overall ‘YEIDA master plan 2041’.

Around 8 km of the project has already been constructed, the other 2 km is currently under construction near sector 22E, and the process of land acquisition for the remaining 5.1 km is being done with the consent of the farmers who own the land.

Why is it important? This upcoming corridor is being described as a special access route for the traffic bound towards the airport. It is intended to connect the airport directly with sectors and roads in the YEIDA area, making access smoother than the current ones. The road should make travel to the airport easier for people coming from Noida, Greater Noida, and surrounding YEIDA sectors, while also giving a faster alternative to the Yamuna Expressway for some routes.

It also fits into the larger connectivity plan around Jewar, where multiple roads and expressway links are being developed. Owing to their proximity, the project will directly benefit more than 13 nearby sectors, including 22A, 22B, 22C, 22D, 22E, 22F, 23A, 23B, 23C, 23D, 23E, 24, 24A, and 25. The entire region around Jewar is developing exponentially. Once the airport opens for commercial flights, new housing societies and industries will take up the region. Without the new corridor, the Yamuna Expressway would be burdened with traffic. Jewar Airport is also being linked through other major projects, including a 31-km greenfield road to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway side via Faridabad, an 8-km emergency road, and other proposed links.
