Katie Miller, a podcaster and close ally of President Donald Trump, reportedly spearheaded the president’s push to take over Greenland by encouraging him to pursue his goal over dinner at Mar-a-Lago earlier this year.

Miller, the wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, was dining with the president hours before the U.S. military captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro when the president lamented about Greenland, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

“I wish I had more time. If I had more time, I would do Greenland,” Trump reportedly said.

Miller, 34, allegedly responded, “You do have time.”

Just hours after Maduro’s capture, Miller posted a photo on X of Greenland, superimposed with an American flag, and the words “SOON.”

In the days after, White House officials would echo the president’s desire to make Greenland part of the U.S., claiming it was of national security importance.

The Independent has asked the White House and Miller for comment.

One of the loudest voices among those was Stephen Miller, who went on CNN to declare that the U.S. should take over Greenland and hinted that any force could be used to do so.

“We live in a world in which you can talk all you want about international niceties and everything else, but we live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” he told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

He added: “Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland.”

Greenland, which has been a territory of Denmark since 1953, is located partially in the Arctic Circle. Its centralized location has been of national interest to the U.S. for years. But as ice melts in the Arctic due to climate change, it is also of commercial interest since it could be used to expand shipping routes.

While Trump had long suggested making Greenland part of the U.S., European officials did not take the president’s claims seriously until after administration officials began pushing for the annexation of Greenland – in part due to Miller’s X post, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“The possibility of employing military force—even against allies—is no longer ruled out,” a report from the Danish Defense Intelligence said, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Danish officials have repeatedly rejected interest in becoming part of the U.S. and members of NATO warned Trump not to take the Danish territory.
