Man Dies After Escalator Incident in Boston Subway

In the US, a 40-year-old man could not be saved after suffering injuries on a subway escalator. This was reported by the Daily Mirror.

The tragic incident occurred on February 27 at the Davis subway station in Boston around five in the morning. Steven McCluskey, a father of two, lost his balance while descending on an escalator. His jacket got caught in the mechanism. The man tried to free himself by unzipping his clothes, but the fabric tightened around his neck, beginning to strangle him.

At the same time, video footage from surveillance cameras, published by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, shows that more than a dozen people walked past McCluskey without offering him help. One of the passersby watched the unfolding events for several seconds, then turned and walked in the opposite direction.

A station employee stopped the escalator approximately 20 minutes later. Arriving firefighters found that part of the skin on the victim's back had been pulled into the mechanism, and his clothes were tightly stuck between the steps. It was necessary to dismantle the escalator to extract McCluskey.

He fell into a coma and was hospitalized. Ten days later, on March 9, the American suffered a heart attack, after which he could not be resuscitated. The man's sister said that in recent years he had struggled with drug addiction, but "tried every day to be close to those he loved." The McCluskey family called on the transportation authority to take responsibility for what happened. The Office of the District Attorney has launched an investigation.
