Lucknow Super Giants had a chance to restore some pride despite already being eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoff race, but their disappointing season continued as they slumped to a seven-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals, powered by another sensational knock from teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who survived a bizzare run-out error from Mohsin Khan, adding horror for LSG.

Chasing a massive 220-run target, Sooryavanshi unleashed complete carnage on the LSG bowlers, smashing a breathtaking 93 off just 38 balls and putting RR firmly in control of the chase. However, one moment during his innings summed up LSG’s disastrous campaign, a bizarre missed run-out opportunity that left fans and commentators stunned.

The incident took place on the very first ball of the 14th over. Dhruv Jurel guided the ball towards short third man, prompting Sooryavanshi to charge halfway down the pitch for a quick single. Jurel eventually sent him back late, leaving the 15-year-old stranded well outside his crease. Fielder Digvesh Rathi reacted quickly and fired in a sharp throw to bowler Mohsin Khan, who was standing right beside the stumps at the non-striker’s end. At that point, Sooryavanshi had almost given up and stopped running, making it a simple run-out opportunity. But in a moment that many described as one of the biggest “brain fades” in IPL history, Mohsin inexplicably chose to throw the ball at the stumps from point-blank range instead of calmly removing the bails with the ball in hand. The throw completely missed the stumps, allowing a relieved Sooryavanshi to comfortably make his ground. The RR youngster was even seen laughing at the bizarre escape.

To Mohsin’s credit, he quickly recovered from the blunder and eventually dismissed Sooryavanshi later in the same over. On the final ball of the 14th, the LSG pacer deceived him with a clever slower delivery. Attempting another big hit, Sooryavanshi mistimed the shot towards long-on, where Abdul Samad completed a simple catch to end a spectacular innings. Still, the damage had already been done. The defeat once again highlighted LSG’s miserable phase this season. After crashing out of playoff contention, they failed to defend another 200-plus total, while the missed run-out only added to the feeling that nothing has gone their way in IPL 2026.
