Parle Launches Limited Edition Tiramisu Melody Toffee Celebrating India-Italy Friendship

Parle has launched a limited edition Tiramisu variant of its iconic Melody toffee on Blinkit, and the pack carries an explicit message celebrating India-Italy friendship, a direct nod to the viral diplomatic moment that put the decades-old candy at the centre of an unlikely international story.

A Parle executive has confirmed the launch. The product is currently available exclusively on Blinkit, comes in a 180 gram pack, is listed under coffee candies, and is described as a limited run for the next couple of months.

The back story to this launch begins in Rome in May this year, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for bilateral meetings. Among the things he carried as a gift was a packet of Melody toffees.

Meloni posted a video of the exchange on Instagram shortly after. Visibly amused, she told her followers: "Prime Minister Modi brought us a gift, a very, very good toffee, Melody," with both leaders sharing a laugh through the interaction. Her caption ended with a simple thank you.

The clip spread rapidly. A childhood Indian candy, unchanged for decades, had just become a diplomatic gift at one of Europe's most watched bilateral meetings.

The 'Melodi' Phenomenon

The Modi-Meloni dynamic had already been a subject of considerable online attention well before the toffee moment.

The term Melodi, a portmanteau of their two names, had been circulating as an internet meme for some time. It gained a more official character when Meloni herself used the hashtag Melodi in an Instagram caption during COP28 in Dubai, where she posted a selfie with Modi and wrote: good friends at COP28.

The two leaders had also been photographed sharing a selfie at the G20 in New Delhi, standing on a balcony watching the sunset over Rome, and exchanging what onlookers described as a genuinely relaxed and friendly interaction at multiple summits.

Parle Melody Tiramisu and the India-Italy Friendship Message

The Melody Tiramisu packaging explicitly carries a 'celebrating India-Italy friendship' message. Parle has directly connected the product to the diplomatic and cultural moment that the Modi-Meloni exchanges created, and chosen Tiramisu, one of Italy's most recognisable exports, as the flavour vehicle for that message.

Tiramisu is coffee-based, which places the product naturally within the coffee candy category it is listed under on Blinkit.

Blinkit Exclusive and Limited Window

The product is currently available only on Blinkit, with no announcement of a wider retail rollout. The limited edition positioning and the two-month availability window suggest Parle is testing response before deciding on anything further.

Whether the Melody Tiramisu moves beyond Blinkit and into general retail will likely depend on how the limited run performs.
