BENGALURU: City police booked a physical education trainer from a residential school near Yelahanka on charges of allegedly beating up a 12-year-old class VI student to death on the school premises Wednesday morning. The incident took place at Sterling English Residential School, in Kadayarappanahalli village, Baglur, and based on the complaint filed by the boy’s father, police booked the teacher teacher, Narayan, under BNS section 101 (murder). The boy’s father alleged that Narayan, using an iron rod, hit his son and bent his neck, resulting in his death. The sudden death triggered a massive protest in the school by the parents and relatives of the boy Wednesday. His father, a resident of Subedarpalya, told media that school authorities called him around 6am, stating the boy had fallen ill and been shifted to a nearby hospital. “My son was admitted to this school when he was studying in class V. The school claims he collapsed while jogging this morning. But when we reached the hospital, we found him dead. I suspect something happened inside the school,” he said. A student had informed the family that the boy had been beaten with an iron rod in the hostel, the boy’s father said. “We were told that the physical education teacher, Narayan, assaulted him. Police are protecting the teacher,” he alleged. According to a senior police officer, school management said the boy collapsed while running for some 10 metres. “Also, the boy had health issues. Anyway, we are waiting for postmortem reports,” he said. Another investigating officer said, “We have issued notice to the PT teacher, directing him to appear before us. Also, we are collecting CCTV footage from the school to know more about the incident.”
