Rohit Sharma Wins Hearts with Compassionate Gesture Toward Injured Staffer

Former skipper Rohit Sharma won hearts after an accidental incident during a Mumbai Indians training session ahead of a crucial IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants. Rohit, who is working his way back from injury, was batting in the nets when a shot inadvertently struck a ground staff member on Sunday.

Despite being urged to continue his practice, Rohit immediately stopped, rushed to check on the injured staffer, and ensured he received proper attention. The staff member, Siban Biswas, later recounted the incident. “When Rohit Sharma sir told us to remove the off-side net, we did so and stood at the side. Just then, while I was wrapping the rope and not paying attention to the players nearby, the ball hit me on my left knee,” he told Mid-Day.

Biswas added that Rohit’s response was instant and caring. “Rohit sir immediately came and inquired about the injury, but I told him to continue batting and not to bother. Yet, he returned with an ice pack and also sent someone to give me some medicine and a spray to put on my leg,” he said. Despite the pain, the moment left a lasting impression. “It was mixed feelings… though my knee was in pain, it also feels good because I got a handshake with Rohit sir,” Biswas added.

The incident comes at a critical time for Mumbai Indians, who are struggling in IPL 2026. Currently placed near the bottom of the table, the team has managed just two wins from nine matches and faces a must-win clash against LSG on Monday. Rohit’s absence due to a hamstring injury has further dented their campaign. The former captain, who last played against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has missed several matches and his availability for the upcoming fixture remains uncertain. However, his return to the nets offers a glimmer of hope for Mumbai Indians as they look to revive their faltering season.
