Russian mountaineer Rustam Nabiev, who lost both legs in a 2015 incident, recently achieved a significant mountaineering feat by scaling Mount Everest using only his hands. He previously played sledge hockey for several years.
MOSCOW, May 22. /TASS/. Russian mountaineer Rustam Nabiev, the first person ever to scale Mount Everest using only his hands, told TASS on Friday that he expected to compete in the next Paralympics for his country.
"Well, I do plan to compete as a Paralympian again. But I don't think in sledge hockey," Nabiev, who used to play for Russia’s Fenix sledge hockey club for several years, said.
"I realized that I'm not a team player. If it's something individual, then probably yes. That's what I was thinking. I won't be able to do mountaineering for the rest of my life, because it's very taxing on your health," he added.
Nabiev, 34, lost both legs after his military barrack in the northern city of Omsk caved in in 2015.
On May 21, Nabiev became the first person ever to summit Mount Everest using only his hands.
