Taiwan Police to Equip Officers with Cut-Resistant Gloves, Tactical Shields, and Riot Forks

To enhance the protective capabilities of frontline officers and reduce the risk of injury during duty, the Ministry of the Interior's National Police Agency recently announced the revision of the "Police Duty Equipment and Tool Standards," adding one pair of cut-resistant gloves per officer, two tactical arm shields per patrol car, one tactical arm shield per duty execution agency, and one riot fork per duty execution agency. However, the quantities may be increased or decreased as appropriate based on local public safety conditions.

The National Police Agency conducted a questionnaire survey on the protective equipment needs of frontline police officers. Officers generally believe that wearing cut-resistant gloves can best increase their safety during duty, with a demand rate of 36.3%. This was followed by anti-stab vests at 32.4%, and tactical arm shields at 26.2%.

Tactical arm shields and riot forks also included in the distribution

Currently, police protective equipment and tools include a bulletproof vest per person, a bulletproof helmet per two people, a reflective vest per person, a flashlight per person, a protective spray, and a police siren. The National Police Agency's amendment adds protective equipment and tools such as cut-resistant gloves, tactical arm shields, and riot forks.

The National Police Agency stated that cut-resistant gloves and tactical arm shields have already been distributed to police agencies for use in 2023. As for riot forks, some police agencies have already purchased them and equipped them at various duty execution agencies for officers to use.

"Institutionalizing" police duty equipment to enhance protection

The National Police Agency emphasized that the safety of frontline colleagues has always been the primary consideration for the National Police Agency. This revision of the "Police Duty Equipment and Tool Standards" aims to "institutionalize" relevant police duty equipment. In the future, the National Police Agency will continue to improve related equipment, while also widely soliciting opinions from colleagues, and making rolling adjustments as needed based on the duty needs of colleagues, so that colleagues can bravely enforce the law while enhancing their own protective capabilities and avoiding injuries during duty.
