Tangkhul Naga Villagers Seek Security from Manipur CM Amid Tensions

Tangkhul Naga villagers from Sinakeithei Village Authority in Ukhrul district met Manipur’s Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, urging deployment of state police forces, including the Indian Reserve Battalion, due to recent attacks. Accompanied by MLA Ram Muivah, they also sought adequate manpower for the local police station, functioning of the Sub-Divisional Collector’s office, security along the Mahadev-Sinakeithei road, better healthcare, and development. The CM emphasized disarming all firearms and achieving peace, citing Nelson Mandela’s example. Meanwhile, the United Naga Council (UNC) pressed Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) for information on six missing male hostages, amid an economic blockade in Naga areas. KIM extended a shutdown in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas by 48 hours from May 19 midnight, the third such extension, highlighting deepening tensions.
