Teen Accused of Abducting Girl Near Melbourne School for Forced Marriage

A teen has been accused of abducting a 17-year-old girl from near a Melbourne school with the intention of marrying her without her consent.

The details were revealed in court documents released after Ayom Deng, 18, faced Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

He was arrested in Melbourne's west at about 10am on Wednesday over the alleged abduction near a school in Melbourne's south-east.

Police said a 17-year-old girl was entering the school when she was approached by a male at about 8:30am on Friday. He then allegedly forced her into a vehicle and fled.

Deng, who was on bail at the time, is alleged to have been driving the vehicle.

He faced court on late on Wednesday after being charged with abduction, kidnapping, false imprisonment and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

His defence lawyer said Deng had diagnosed PTSD, that it was not his first time in custody and that he was vulnerable due to his age and appearance.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear in court for a committal mention on September 23.

Charge sheets released on Thursday reveal Deng is accused of five offences, including abducting the girl "with intent on marrying … without her consent".

He is also charged with unlawfully imprisoning her and detaining her "against her will" in the court documents.

Deng is also accused of driving on a highway without a driver's licence or permit allowing him to drive.
