TSMC Chairman Wei: AI will drive growth, plans to accelerate Kumamoto factory

【Taipei = Yuki Nishimi】 Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's largest contract semiconductor manufacturer, held its annual shareholders meeting in Hsinchu, Taiwan on June 4.

Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei stated, "The value of our cutting-edge technology and manufacturing capabilities will continue to grow" due to the expansion of AI utilization, expressing strong confidence in the company's sustained growth over the next few years.

Regarding the Kumamoto No. 2 factory (Kikuyo Town, Kumamoto Prefecture), which will begin mass production of advanced semiconductors equivalent to 3-nanometer process technology in 2028, Wei stated that it is proceeding according to plan, adding, "If possible, we will accelerate (preparations)."

Regarding Tokyo Electron, a major manufacturer of semiconductor manufacturing equipment that was found guilty in a case of illegal acquisition of TSMC's confidential information, Wei was asked if there was a plan to remove the company from the supplier list. He responded, "The company did not violate company policy; it was an employee's mistake. They have also received legal sanctions," indicating his intention to continue doing business with Tokyo Electron.
