UWW Backs WFI's Authority Over Vinesh Phogat's Participation

The United World Wrestling (UWW) has backed the Wrestling Federation of India's (WFI) authority to decide on Vinesh Phogat's future participation and any disciplinary proceedings. UWW President Nenad Lalovic informed WFI that as the national federation, it has the right to seek explanations from Vinesh and take appropriate action after reviewing her response to the show-cause notice issued last Saturday. The notice raised disciplinary and doping concerns, including alleged violations linked to retirement and return-to-competition regulations under UWW rules. Vinesh has been barred from participating in WFI events until June 26, 2026. Lalovic stated the WFI could legitimately question Vinesh on important issues before permitting her return. Vinesh later shared a confidential email from the International Testing Agency (ITA), stating she was eligible to return to competition from January 1, 2026.
