The Warriors are making metres at will and reload with a slick passing move out to the left. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad flies over for his fourth of the first half, but there's a forward pass call from the touch judge.

There were a few flat balls in there, but nothing I'd consider egregious. So much so I'm not actually sure which pass was the perpetrator.

The defence jams in and Chanel Harris-Tavita throws a superb ball over the top to Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, who flies up the left wing to score his third of the night.

I kept expecting Scott Drinkwater to come flying across in cover defence, but he was caught in the front line of the defence for some reason on the fourth tackle.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak breaks down the right and the Warriors kick back across field.

Jacob Laban marks superbly in front of Tom Chester and goes to ground to reach out to the line. Grant Atkins sends it to the bunker as no try, and the replays confirm a bobble from the big back rower.

The Warriors prop's breakout season looks done almost immediately as he gets up feeling at a pec and shoulder and straight away signals to the bench, sprinting off the field.

Tanner Stowers-Smith comes on.

If that is a pec for Ford, and the mechanism and reaction looks incredibly pec-ish, it would be a miserable end to a brilliant season for the former Dragon.

Heilum Luki catches Wayde Egan high for the Cowboys' fifth penalty conceded and referee Grant Atkins calls out captain Reuben Cotter.

He says he understands how much ball the Warriors have had and how tired the Cowboys' defenders are, but they need to clean it up.

"There's no malice in it," Cotter replies, which is fair enough.

The past two head-high calls were on a falling, almost horizontal, Marata Niukore and bouncing up off the ball into Egan's chin.

The Cowboys five-eighth just jogs through the line and is looking around for support, but the only player within coo-ee is Reuben Cotter, and the Maroons lock can't catch up, so Purdue goes the other way long to Braidon Burns, who is eventually reined in.

Jake Clifford tries a Cooper Cronk-esque low snaps across the field towards Murray Taulagi, but Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is able to leap and take it cleanly up above his head.

Wayde Egan breaks through the middle and comes to Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater with Chanel Harris-Tavita on his left and Taine Tuaupiki on his right.

He looks left, left, left then right at the last second, passing to his fullback, but Drinkwater is magical in these scenarios and somehow manages to pick off the pass and go 50 metres in the other direction.

What a play. I've never seen anyone as good at picking off two-on-ones as Drinkwater.

The Warriors march upfield and Wayde Egan is pulling the strings all over the place.

After Jacob Laban goes through and is only stopped by a Scott Drinkwater grass-cutter, Egan gets into dummy half and fires a cut-out pass out to Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad to dive in again.

Could Braidon Burns have manned up a bit more there? Maybe, but the Warriors are just moving so quickly and firing shot after shot.

Back-to-back-to back penalties are too much for pretty much anyone to weather, especially with a few set restarts thrown in right on the tryline.

Warriors half Luke Metcalf has been named in jersey number 20 for the first time since requesting and receiving a release from the side to join the Dragons next season.

Metcalf, who led the Dally M count when he went down with a knee injury last season, meaning he missed the start of the year, during which Tanah Boyd started brilliantly.

Metcalf was basically stuck behind the in-form halves pairing of Boy and Chanel Harris-Tavita, and decided he didn't want to be, so he requested a release in early May.

Shortly after he announced he was heading to the Dragons in 2027, Boyd tore his ACL, driving home just how premature Metcalf's request really was.

And today he is named on the extended bench for just the second time since round five, potentially in line for his first minutes since April 5.
