The automaker's union said it decided to stage four-hour strikes on Wednesday and Thursday and six-hour strikes on Friday and Sunday.

■ S. Korea to upgrade key battle tank, anti-ship missile programs: arms agency

SEOUL -- South Korea plans to upgrade a key Army battle tank and an anti-ship missile program for the Navy in an effort to boost military capabilities against evolving enemy threats, the arms agency said Tuesday.

It will launch a 3.43 trillion-won (US$2.43 billion) project to upgrade the K2 main battle tank to be equipped with an active protection system (APS) to intercept anti-tank missiles and drones, a drone and improvised explosive device (IED) jammer and a remote-controlled weapons station (RCWS), the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said.

■ Police raid Korea Airports Corp., transport ministry over Jeju Air crash

SEOUL -- Police raided the Korea Airports Corp. (KAC) and two other sites Tuesday to seize evidence related to their ongoing investigation into the 2024 Jeju Air plane crash that killed 179 people.

A special team handling the probe said its investigators were sent to the KAC, which oversees most major domestic airports excluding Incheon International Airport, the transport ministry and the Busan Regional Office of Aviation.

■ 2 ex-Chinese military officers arrested over alleged eavesdropping, leaks

SUWON -- Two former Chinese military officers have been arrested for allegedly eavesdropping on communications from fighter jets near a South Korean military base and leaking classified material related to South Korea-U.S. military exercises, police said Tuesday.

One of the suspects, a Chinese national in his 60s, was arrested on suspicions of benefiting the enemy and violating a law on the protection of communications secrets after allegedly making multiple visits to South Korea on a tourist visa and tapping communications between fighter jets and air traffic control towers from a hotel near an airport in the southwestern city of Gunsan, according to the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police.
