Zakharova: EU Parliament exhibits double standards on China, Ukraine, and within EU

MOSCOW, May 16. /TASS/. The European Parliament, while calling for the repeal of the law on ethnic unity in China, at the same time refuses to notice the lawlessness occurring in Ukraine and within the EU countries themselves, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said on her Telegram channel.

The diplomat drew attention to the fact that on April 30, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the Chinese authorities to repeal the "Law on Ethnic Unity and Progress," aimed at "strengthening a sense of commonality among all ethnic groups in the Chinese nation," which will allegedly have "serious consequences for residents of the autonomous regions of China: Tibet, Xinjiang, and Inner Mongolia."

"What an example of double standards, or maybe even schizophrenia? Right under the nose of the European Parliament, in Europe itself, lawlessness has gone on rampant for years. Complete corruption and inhuman cruelty have long become synonymous with the Kiev regime. The monstrous tragedy orchestrated by neo-Nazis in Odessa, the bloody theatrics in Bucha, the massive-scale torture of prisoners, brutal executions and tortures up to live burial, secret prisons: all this is the norm for the Zelensky regime. He has literally plunged his country into the ideology of cannibalistic hatred, encouraging Nazism and nationalism," Zakharova noted.

Furthermore, the diplomat noted that racism and xenophobia have reached threatening proportions in the EU countries themselves. "Instances of Sinophobia are regularly recorded. A high level of hateful rhetoric persists. European NGOs and structures record a sharp surge in anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim sentiment, with every second Muslim and over 77% of people of African descent facing discrimination in everyday life," she listed.

"But the European Parliament, through a spyglass, intently watches the other end of the earth," Zakharova stated.
