Zubeen Garg Case: Assam Court Frames Murder Charges Against Four Accused

Zubeen Garg, a renowned singer, died in Singapore on September 19, 2025, while swimming in the sea under the influence of alcohol. An Assam fast-track court has framed murder charges against four accused, including the event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, manager Siddharth Sharma, bandmate Shekharjyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta. Charges of criminal conspiracy and breach of trust were also framed against these four, along with Zubeen’s security officers. Zubeen’s cousin Sandipon Garg faces culpable homicide charges. The trial is set to begin on June 8. The Singapore Coroner’s Court had earlier ruled out foul play, attributing the death to drowning. However, the Assam court found strong prima facie evidence against the accused, including supplying alcohol to Zubeen despite his medical condition and failing to disclose it. The accused pleaded not guilty.

The court’s decision to hold a joint trial aims for a speedy resolution. The case highlights negligence and potential criminality surrounding Zubeen’s death, sparking both sadness and anger among his fans and family.
