Over 200 Civilians Rescued From ISIS-Linked ADF Militants in Eastern DRC
Ugandan and Congolese military forces have rescued more than 200 civilians held captive by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an ISIS-linked militant group, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The hostages, including children as young as 14, described harsh conditions including lack of food, forced labor and punishment. Several ADF fighters were killed and weapons recovered in the operation. The ADF, originally formed in Uganda in the 1990s, has been responsible for over half of civilian deaths in the region according to a 2024 study.
