A Ballarat man, Lachlan Young, is on trial accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in February 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape, while his defence questions the complainant's credibility.
An independent review of Ballarat Grammar in regional Victoria found a culture of "normalised" racism, bullying, and abuse, including historical physical punishment and hazing. The report made 44 recommendations, which the school board has accepted in principle.
