Lufthansa Group Cuts 20,000 Flights as Iran War Drives Jet Fuel Prices to Record Highs
Lufthansa Group announced Tuesday it will cut 20,000 short-haul flights through October to save jet fuel as prices more than double due to the Iran war. The German airline group, which owns Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, SWISS and ITA Airways, is consolidating European routes from hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels, Rome, Vienna and Zurich. The International Energy Agency warned April 16 that Europe has only about six weeks of jet fuel remaining. The war is costing Europe approximately 500 million euros daily, according to EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen.
