84-Year-Old 'Ever Present' Runner Completes Final London Marathon After Withdrawing Mid-Race
Mac Speake, 84, has completed his 45th and final London Marathon after withdrawing midway through this year's race due to a suspected stress fracture. The retired GP from Kettlebaston, Suffolk, is one of just five remaining 'Ever Presents' - a group of runners who have taken part in every London Marathon since the first event in 1981. Mac achieved a personal best of 2 hours 44 minutes in 1983 and finished his last completed race in 9 hours 14 minutes. 'The London Marathon has given me so much. I look back at my life and think that at least I have achieved something,' he said.
