Former Conservative Prime Minister Sir John Major has warned Britain must not keep changing prime ministers, accusing today's focus-group obsessed politicians of treating politics as a 'game show' while delaying action on long-term issues like healthcare, pensions and climate change. In interviews with BBC Radio 5 Live and Newsnight, he said leaders were avoiding action on an ageing population and leaving future generations to deal with problems they should have addressed. He called for a limited number of years in office, similar to the US two-term presidency, and warned that without a new generation willing to enter public service, 'we are in deep doodah'.
