Nine people were killed and around 15 rescued after a fire swept through a four-storey residential building in Delhi's Vivek Vihar around 3:47am on Sunday. The blaze, suspected to be caused by an AC blast or electrical short circuit, engulfed flats on the second, third and fourth floors. Victims include a family of five on the second floor and another family of three on the third floor. Rescue efforts were hampered by iron grilles and barred windows. One injured person is being treated at GTB Hospital.

Emergency teams responded to the alert received around 4 am and brought the fire under control. Rescue operations continue for families still feared trapped, with 12-15 people rescued and 4-5 still missing according to witnesses.

At Least Nine Killed in Residential Building Fire in Delhi's Shahdara

At least nine people were killed after a massive fire broke out in a residential building in Shahdara, Delhi, in the early hours of Sunday. The fire, believed to have been caused by an AC blast or short circuit, started around 3:13 am. Fourteen fire tenders and over 80 fire personnel were dispatched after a call at 3:27 am, and the flames were brought under control by around 8 am. Ten to 15 persons were rescued, with two sustaining minor injuries and being shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
