Tigress and Last Surviving Cub Die at Kanha Reserve Amid Suspected Canine Distemper Outbreak
A tigress (T-141) and her last surviving cub died at Mukki quarantine facility in Kanha Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, days after three of her cubs perished between April 21-25. Officials believe the deaths were caused by canine distemper virus (CDV), a highly contagious disease that spreads from domestic dogs to wild carnivores. The tiger death toll in the state has reached 30 this year. Forest authorities have launched a massive sanitisation and vaccination operation across the reserve and adjoining buffer areas.
