Raiders Select QB Fernando Mendoza First Overall in 2026 NFL Draft
The Las Vegas Raiders selected quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old Heisman Trophy winner led Indiana to its first national championship and becomes just the third player to win the Heisman, a national championship and go first overall in the same year, joining Cam Newton (2011) and Joe Burrow (2020). Mendoza watched from Miami with family rather than attending the Pittsburgh event. The draft saw eight trades on day one, with 320,000 attending outside the Steelers' home.
