Chicago Police Officer Fatally Shot at Hospital While Guarding Suspect in Custody
A 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, identified as 38-year-old John Bartholomew, was fatally shot Saturday at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital while guarding a suspect in custody. A second officer, 57 years old with 21 years of service, was critically wounded. The suspect, arrested for suspicion of robbery, was brought to the hospital for observation but opened fire on the officers and fled. He was later taken into custody. Police recovered three weapons and are investigating how the suspect obtained a gun while in custody.
