Spotify is introducing a 'Verified by Spotify' badge with a green checkmark to help users identify human artists on its platform. The verification, rolling out over coming weeks, will apply to more than 99% of artists listeners actively search for, based on criteria including linked social accounts, consistent listener activity, merchandise, and concert dates. Critics argue the badge only proves an artist is human, not that their music was made without AI, and could disadvantage independent artists without touring or merchandise.
