Perseverance Rover Detects Complex Organic Carbon on Mars Surface
NASA's Perseverance rover has detected complex macromolecular carbon on the surface of a rock in Jezero Crater, Mars. This is the shallowest detection of organic matter on the Martian surface to date. While on Earth, such carbon often suggests a biological origin, scientists are cautious and await sample return to Earth for definitive analysis.
