POSCO to Acquire 30% Stake in Australian Lithium Mine Operator for $765M
POSCO Holdings signed a 1.1 trillion-won ($765 million) deal to acquire a 30% stake in an Australian lithium mine operator through a joint venture with Mineral Resources. The agreement secures rights to lithium concentrate from the Mount Marion and Wodgina mines in Western Australia, with combined reserves of about 8.4 million tons of lithium carbonate. The output can produce around 37,000 tons of lithium hydroxide, sufficient for approximately 860,000 electric vehicles.
