Sony Faces Class-Action Lawsuit in US Over PS5 Price Increase

Sony is facing a class-action lawsuit in the United States filed by gamers who allege the company profited from PS5 price hikes during a period of tariffs. Players are seeking refunds for the price difference and suspect Sony may have benefited twice by increasing prices and potentially receiving tariff refunds without passing savings to consumers. Other companies like Amazon, Nintendo, Nike, and Adidas are facing similar lawsuits.

Global food prices jump for third month running as Iran war drives up costs – business live

Rolling coverage of the latest economic and financial newsNewsflash: Global food prices have risen for the third month running, as the Iran war drives up the price of energy and fertiliser. The United Nations’ FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) shows that prices of a basket of food commodities rose by 1.6% in April, adding to price rises in February and March. The price increase was further supported by expectations of reduced wheat plantings in 2026, as farmers shift to less fertilizer‑intensive crops amid high fertilizer prices, driven by elevated energy costs and disruptions linked to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.International palm oil prices rose for the fifth consecutive month in April, largely underpinned by prospective higher demand from the biofuel sector, supported by policy incentives in several producing countries and higher crude oil prices. Additional upward pressure stemmed from concerns over lower production in Southeast Asia in the coming months. The drop in April was mainly driven by expectations of ample global supplies in the current season, reinforced by improved production prospects in key Asian producing countries, notably China and Thailand. The onset of the new harvest in Brazil’s key southern growing regions under favourable weather conditions further contributed to the overall decline in international sugar prices. Rolling coverage of the latest economic and financial newsLondon’s stock market is sliding at the start of trading. The FTSE 100 index has dropped by 67 points, or 0.65%, to 10,209 points.“We are actively managing the uncertainty created by the fuel price increase and its impact, taking the necessary action on yields, costs and capacity. We currently see no issues with fuel availability in our main markets, particularly as we benefit from our investment in fuel self-supply at our hubs.Whilst the impact of the higher fuel price will inevitably lead to lower profit this year than we originally anticipated, we are confident in our business model and strategy, which has made us one of the best-performing airline groups in the world, and which gives us the opportunity to prove our resilience. This confidence means we are on track to continue with the remaining €1 billion return of excess cash. Continue reading...

BYD Raises Assisted-Driving System Price by 21% Amid Memory Chip Cost Surge

BYD announced a 21% price increase for its DiPilot 300 assisted-driving system, raising the cost from 9,900 yuan to 12,000 yuan starting Friday. The company attributed the hike to sharp rises in global storage hardware costs. The system uses lidar sensors and memory chips, and analysts predict premium vehicles will be the next category hit hard by a memory chip 'super cycle', while mid-range models will bear the brunt as high-end buyers are less price-sensitive.
