22.4.2026KI-Zusammenfassung Record Puffin Count on Skomer Island for Second Year Running
A record 52,019 puffins were counted on Skomer Island off Pembrokeshire this year, exceeding the previous record of 43,626 set in 2025 by over 8,000 birds. The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales described the count as a "very pleasant surprise" given the decline of puffins across many UK sites. The annual count, using the same method since the 1980s, helps monitor seabird populations facing threats from pollution, invasive predators, bird flu, and offshore development.
