WFI President Sanjay Singh Refuses to Change Gonda Venue Despite Vinesh Phogat Safety Concerns
WFI president Sanjay Singh has refused to change the venue for the National Open Ranking Tournament in Gonda despite safety concerns raised by Vinesh Phogat ahead of her return after 18 months. Singh said participation is optional and assured personal safety guarantees, while promising UWW-approved referees and recorded bouts. Vinesh, who is one of six women who filed sexual harassment complaints against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, expressed fears that results could be influenced by people close to him at the venue. The tournament runs May 10-12.
