A Bengaluru tech couple, Shwetha and J Kenneth, were arrested for the murders of Shwetha's parents and sister, allegedly due to unpaid loans and Kenneth's affair.
Ten days after triple murders shook Bengaluru, police investigations suggest techie Shwetha’s live-in partner J Kenneth meticulously planned and executed the killings with help from AI on how to inflict stab injuries and what kind of injuries will prove fatal.
On June 22, Shwetha and Kenneth, also a software engineer, murdered her parents Somasundar and Muttulakshmi and her younger sister Supriya at their residence in Kadugodi over unpaid loans and bank reminders on EMIs.
Quoting from investigations, police said it was Kenneth who alone killed all three people while Shwetha watched in horror. Both Kenneth and Shwetha were arrested from Puducherry within a week of the murders.
Life On Fast Lane
According to police, Shwetha reportedly raised Rs 56 lakh in loans to fund Kenneth’s lavish lifestyle. The trouble started when notices on unpaid EMI began arriving at her father Somasundar’s residence in Nallurahalli.
When her parents repeatedly questioned the couple on loans, Kenneth allegedly declared to Shwetha, “We’ll eliminate them.”
Adding to the tension, Shwetha recently discovered Kenneth had a girlfriend, a techie from Kerala, and rented a flat near HAL for her. When Shwetha confronted him, Kenneth made light of the accusation, claiming he was merely taking ‘technical help’ from her to launch a tech startup.
According to Kenneth’s confession, he planned murders on the night of June 21. His girlfriend had been to Kerala. Taking advantage of the empty house, Kenneth invited Shwetha’s family to discuss the pending loan. Though all three came to the flat, Kenneth lost his nerve.
The same night, Shwetha’s mother visited their Sai Green flat — the couple’s house — and stayed there.
To Cover Up One Murder...
However, the June 22 plan had a twist: Murder only Shwetha’s mother and dispose of her body. Kenneth stabbed Muthhulakshmi repeatedly while she lay on the sofa watching TV. Shwetha allegedly stood at a distance, watching the assault.
The plan turned more grisly when the doorbell rang unexpectedly. Shwetha’s father and her younger sister arrived at the flat an hour earlier than anticipated. To hide the evidence, Kenneth and Shwetha dragged Muthhulakshmi’s body into the bedroom.
The moment Somasundar stepped inside, Kenneth stabbed him in the back. Somasundar retaliated, momentarily overpowered Kenneth, and fled into the corridor to scream for help. Inside the flat, Supriya began crying out in sheer terror. As Shwetha reportedly gagged and pinned her sister down, Kenneth stabbed the 20-year-old woman in the neck, stomach and back.
Shwetha’s Dad Fights Back
Kenneth and Shwetha fled the scene. Somasundar, before collapsing to his death, informed neighbours about the killers.
The duo escaped to Tamil Nadu on a bike, which broke down near Tiruvannamalai, 200km from Bengaluru.
Deputy commissioner of police (Whitefield) Saidulu Adavat said they were completing spot mahazar at Tiruvannamalai. “Shwetha and Kenneth explained where they abandoned the bike and from which point they boarded the bus to Puducherry,” he said.
