Bus Overturns in Carmarthenshire, Injuring 19

Nineteen people have been injured with six people taken to hospital after a bus overturned following a crash.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the incident happened on the A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout in Carmarthenshire, south-west Wales, with emergency services called to the site at about 12:20 BST on Tuesday.

The force confirmed 13 casualties were assessed and discharged at the scene, and a further six people were taken to hospital for further medical attention.

No injuries were believed to be life-threatening at the scene, the force said.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the major incident at Kidwelly had now been stood down.

The road between the roundabout at Parc y Bocs and Llandyfaelog will remain closed for collision investigators to carry out their enquiries.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We would like to thank the public for their understanding and patience while emergency services worked together at the scene."

First Bus confirmed the vehicle involved was the company's X11 service, which runs between Carmarthen and Swansea.

Police confirmed all passengers on board the bus involved had been "safely removed" and were receiving "appropriate care".

A rest centre was set up at the nearby John Burns Centre.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it sent three crews to the incident from Tumble, Carmarthen and Kidwelly fire stations.

Hywel Dda health board said its teams were responding to the incident.

"Our emergency departments are busy, and waiting times are likely to be longer as we treat individuals with the greatest need first," it said.

Local vicar Father Jim Flanagan said he was re-routed due to the road closures and saw the bus over a hedge.

He added there were multiple ambulances there, with lights flashing, and an air ambulance had landed in a field.

One of his churches, St Mary's in Kidwelly, has been opened should people wish to use it, he said.

The A484 is a popular route which connects Carmarthen with Kidwelly, Burry Port and Llanelli.

Local attractions include Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan beach - both busy with visitors in the summer months.

In Tuesday's high temperatures, police have been directing traffic away from the scene, which is not visible beyond the cordon.

Two officers are stationed by the roundabout and drivers appear to be keeping away as per their instructions.
