Lancashire Police said his son, Adam Olverson, 31, of Pinfold Lane, Scarisbrick, has been charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition without a licence.
He is due to appear before Preston Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
Lancashire Police said the man facing charges was arrested for murder two years ago, but bailed pending further inquiries.
A spokesman added: "We can now tell you that the man was re-arrested yesterday, and, following a consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, has been charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without a license."
The late Mr Olverson lived at Marsh Hey Farm, which was close to the shooting site.
