A greyhound has suffered a fall and injury at a regional New South Wales race named in solidarity with Tasmania's racing industry, which faces a possible statewide ban.

It was race two on Sunday night in the town of Temora.

The race, named "We Stand With Tasmania Pathways", was a 330-metre dash to the finish for seven greyhounds.

Five-year-old greyhound Manila Shelby bolted from the box and collided with another dog at the first turn.

She was flung into the side metal barrier and struggled to get back up.

A stewards' report from the night said it was likely she broke her shoulder blade and injured her "tricep".

A Greyhound Racing NSW spokesperson later said the trainer took his dog to the vet the following day and an examination and x-rays showed no fractures.

Manila Shelby was given oral medication and will not be able to race for several weeks, vet notes shared by Greyhound Racing NSW showed.

The race replay video has been deleted from the state's racing website.

On a prominent betting site, the race replay has also been edited to exclude the fall.

It is one of several races called "We Stand With Tasmania" that have resulted in falls and injuries.

On December 22, 2025, during race three at Maitland in NSW, Hey Pat fell and sustained a serious foreleg fracture.

The greyhound is now listed as deceased.

Two greyhounds fell on October 20 last year during race one in Nowra, NSW.

And during race five in Warragul, Victoria, on October 23, Collinda Blinder fell and tumbled after the first turn.

The race where Manila Shelby was injured has been uploaded to Greyhound Racing SA's website.

In Tasmania, when a dog is injured on the track, a video of the race is never uploaded.

The Tasmanian industry's peak body Tasracing said this decision is made out of respect to the industry, as well as the greyhound trainer and animal involved.

Tasmanian Greens animal rights spokesperson Cassy O'Connor said the race was "horrible viewing" and "characteristic of the dangerous conditions greyhounds are forced to race in".

"Manila Shelby isn't the first greyhound to be injured in mainland races under the 'Stand With Tasmania' banner, and sadly, she won't be the last.

"But we have the power to stop greyhounds being put in harm's way in this state."

The state government has committed to cutting funding to the industry from 2029, which coincides with the end of the current funding deal for the code.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said in August last year "it was time to make a call on the future of the sport", and he "continues to be concerned about animal welfare".

"It's time to draw a line in the sand and ensure an orderly exit from greyhound racing in Tasmania," Mr Rockliff said at the time.

Legislation to phase out the industry passed the Tasmanian parliament's lower house in December 2025, but was pulled from the upper house after the state government feared it didn't have the numbers to pass.

"Greyhound racing is out of step with community expectations. It does not prioritise animal welfare," Tasmanian Liberal MP Marcus Vermey said.

Tasmanian Labor continues to support the industry.
