SEOUL, June 17 (Yonhap) -- Hyosung Group said Wednesday it has opened a hyperscale data center in Seoul in partnership with a Singapore-based data center operator as it steps up its push into artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
A joint venture between Hyosung Heavy Industries Co. and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) opened the 30-megawatt data center, STT Seoul 1, in western Seoul on Tuesday to support the group-wide cloud computing and AI services.
Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon said the group will foster the AI data center as its new growth driver by leveraging the group's capabilities to build a differentiated AI data center business model.
Hyosung Heavy Industries aims to enhance the operational stability and power efficiency of AI data centers by drawing on its expertise in power equipment and its construction know-how gained from large-scale energy projects.
Hyosung ITX, the group's IT services arm, plans to integrate its existing IT capabilities across AI data center operations and develop traffic optimization and security management systems.
