GENEVA, May 13. /TASS/. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is searching for over 240,000 people missing due to the Ukraine conflict, with 243,000 cases as of late April, according to ICRC files obtained by TASS. This number only includes individuals whose families have filed missing person appeals. Notably, the ICRC has provided information to 17,000 families about their missing relatives. Additionally, over 28,000 personal messages have been exchanged between prisoners of war and their families through the ICRC. The ICRC’s Central Tracing Agency for the Ukraine conflict, established in Geneva in March 2022, acts as a neutral intermediary supporting those searching for relatives on both sides of the conflict. Under the Geneva Conventions, parties to an armed conflict must provide the ICRC with information on protected persons, reducing the likelihood of individuals going missing.
